A Warm Welcome, A New Language, and Export Opportunities: A Business Trip to Mexico

12/13

Hello Everyone:

A Warm Welcome

Last week I went on my third trip to Mexico in 2012 and it was my best one so far.  I felt really safe as I received a warm welcome from some very wonderful people.  Everyone I met during the trip was so friendly and welcoming. I arrived in Hermosillo on Sunday and that night they had a holiday parade, that lasted for about 40 minutes, and I felt like I was watching with my family in Phoenix. I even took a video to show my family when I get home of the great music, floats, and all of the playful kids running around.

A New Language

I currently do not speak Spanish. However, everyone I met with either spoke some English (some even spoke excellent English) or had someone with them that could translate. While I am starting to learn some of the basic words and numbers, I can’t put together any sentences yet.  I am looking forward to building relationships and my business within Sonora over the next 30 years.  In doing this, I am striving to develop my ability to speak Spanish.  I have started to look into one-on-one online sessions using Skype.  Does anyone have any experience with this or have any suggestions?  I am also using some language software to learn new words and listening to how the words should sound.

JWB’s Next Step

Our company’s ability to ship across borders has allowed us to take advantage of the growing manufacturing business in Mexico. Although we do business with companies in many other countries, Mexico will be our first major leap into the international exporting business. We are excited to work with these new customers to provide them with the best possible services and products, as well as, learn about the culture and business practices in Mexico as we grow our own business.

If you’d like to read more about the trip and the company’s new exporting growth into Mexico. I was also recently featured in an article by the Arizona Republic.
